Queen Mum Agapanthus, Grape Vines, Dahlias, Bougainvillea and More

By Cathy Hough, general manager and buyer

The Queen Mum (below) is a beautiful variety of the popular Agapanthus. Its flower is white with a little bit of blue and it is stunningly beautiful. The plant’s flower spikes are easily 2-3 feet tall; they standout in any landscape. Agapanthus will grow in full sun to partial shade. We have the Queen Mum in stock now but our grower only has a limited number of these plants, so hurry in if you’d like to add one of these to your garden.

Gardeners in the know continue to come in as often as possible to check out our ongoing deliveries of vegetables and herbs (below). Our herb, vegetable and fruit section is so popular that we have to have near daily shipments to keep our customers satisfied. Right now, you’ll find chives (the customer below is holding a garlic chive), chives, dill, basil, oregano, thyme, marjoram, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, grape vines and blueberry bushes. Let one of our gardening experts, Steve, Roger or CJ, help you select trellises, soil amendments and everything you need to have the heartiest, healthiest home garden.

The garden center is aglow in color! (Below) The Mystic Spires Salvia is a wonderful drought-tolerant plant. The perennial will do well in full sun.

(Below) A father and his daughter are selecting the seed packets they want to plant in their garden. Planting from seed is a great way to teach young children about the life cycle of a plant, from seed to stem to flower to seed again (in most instances).

(Below) Summer evenings mean it’s time to stoke the chiminea with wood and gather round with friends and family. We have a nice selection of benches, tables and chairs for you to take home to create that communal space. And, as you can see, we have loads of plants to brighten up the landscape, patios, decks, balconies and the like. Gorgeous, colorful Dahlias are in front of the chiminea and Bougainvillea and a Climbing Rose can be seen in the background, along with other plants.

(Below) Asclepia, aka Butterfly Bush, is a popular plant with our customers, both for its showy flowers and attracting Monarchs to the garden. Here it’s in a brilliant orange and yellow flower.

Check out the grape vines we have in stock. They’re loading up with fruit! Wouldn’t it be fun to pick and eat your own grapes this summer?

We’re always finding fun new garden items to bring into the store. One of our latest finds is this turtle suncatcher chime (below). Do step inside the store to see all of our indoor plants and other gardening and home design items.

CJ (below) helps a family find some seeds to plant. Our staff of nursery professionals is always ready to provide guidance.

(Above and below) We’re well-known for our fun critters. Pink snail watering cans (above) and lifelike geese (below) are just some of the wildlife you’ll welcome to your home.

Life imitates art: I wouldn’t have known what I was seeing if I wasn’t familiar with the lifelike geese we sell, but twice now on my way to work, I’ve seen geese crossing Jefferson Boulevard heading into the Ballona Wetlands.

By Cathy Hough, general manager and buyer

Welcome to the Marina del Rey Garden Center. If you haven’t visited us before, now would be a great time to stop by. Our 2+ acres are filled with plants, containers, succulents, fountains, statues… and everything you’d expect a full-service garden center to have.

Our large inventory is eye-popping, with everything from quick-and-easy color to Vegetables and Herbs to Grape Vines and Blueberry Bushes.

Ask Steve, CJ or Roger for assistance; they’re more than happy to offer guidance, comments and direction.

(Below) Gardeners, landscape designers, home stagers, movie crews… all have been here and found just what they were looking for.

Of course, as most gardeners will tell you, gardening is about more than just finding what you’re after: It’s that “Aha” or “Wow” momment when you find something you’d least expected.

We’re here to help you discover new plants, learn about new varieties, refresh the look inside or outside your home. Our goal is to exceed your expectations.

Lately, the summer rush has been on for Blueberry Bushes (below)! You’ll find about half a dozen varieties of Blueberry Bushes in our herb and vegetable section, where we are loaded with corn, tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, squash, and other summertime crops.

Monrovia growers is our main supplier of  Blueberry Bushes (above).

We recommend that you plant your Blueberry Bushes in containers with Master Nursery Acid Planting Mix. Even better, plant two varieties together in one container for maximum fruit production. Sit back and enjoy blueberries galore in the summer!

(Below) Part of what sets us apart is that we’re always receiving new products and plant shipments. That’s why we encourage you to visit frequently, even if just perusing or taking a simple leisurely stroll to see what’s new.

Dwarf Citrus and fruit trees (below) can also be grown in a container.

(Below) Steve is helping a customer find just the right fruit tree. Imagine picking your own lemon or lime fresh from your own tree!

We receive almost daily deliveries of fresh Vegetable and Herbs. If you’re just getting started, consult with one of our experts about creating your own herb and vegetable garden.

Our Operations team members work hard to keep the nursery in tip-top shape. (Below) Rick answers questions and chats with a customer. Every member of our team looks forward to greeting and meeting you, and we certainly enjoy carrying your purchases (plants, soil amendments, containers… ) to your car and loading them up. Remember, we offer delivery, too.

(Below) Lingering in our garden center is easy to do. This customer was stopping and smelling the roses.

(Below) Garden accents, including gazing balls, urns and containers, are part of what you’ll enjoy about our nursery. We offer one of the largest selections of plants, containers and fountains in the Greater Los Angeles area.

We’re here to provide you with a unique experience, and as a full-service nursery, we take great pride in making sure you have a wonderful time when you visit.
